My son has been in a twin size bed for about a year now. Ever since I have been trying to decide which quilt pattern I want to use for his bed. There are so many great designs out there, … Continue reading
I know, I know. May is more than half over, which makes my April reading post really late. I moved. I unpacked. I’ve been painting. There are my excuses. I’m doing pretty well on my Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge. With … Continue reading
Well we’re finally all moved into our new house and mostly unpacked! We closed on April 21st. We arrived a little early, so the folks at the title company took us back to the conference room and had us sign … Continue reading
Shopping for a house and all of the meetings related to that prevented me from doing nearly as much reading last month. That’s all right, though. I have read 21 books toward my goal of 50 books for 2015. If … Continue reading
Wow! 2015 has not been a very active blogging year for me so far. Oops! I have thought about my blog frequently, though. Life has just been kind of busy. Here’s a quick, bullet-point run down of what has been going on lately…
- We are buying a house! You may remember that we relocated from Illinois to Missouri last September. We decided to rent while our house in Illinois was on the market. It sold back in January and we began looking for a new place soon thereafter. We found an amazing house in a quiet subdivision and close in two weeks. TWO WEEKS! I am really looking forward to being in our new house.
- Sewing has been somewhat sporadic the last couple of months. I have added a bunch of adorable zippered pouches to my Etsy shop, but haven’t done tons of personal sewing. I do have some finished projects, though, and will share them soon.
- We are working on potty training Gene. This has actually taken up a lot more of my attention than I expected. For a while it felt like all I did was follow him around. Seriously. I was stuck to that boy like glue. I am happy to report that he is doing really well with it. We still have a few kinks to work out, but it’s really nice only having one child in diapers during the day.
- Speaking of diapers, Moxie is now in cloth diapers! We used them with Gene beginning shortly after he was born. We packed them away in winter 2013 when Moxie was four months old. With all of the we’re moving/we aren’t moving/are we moving/should we move business, it just got to be a hassle. I packed the diapers away and started buying disposables. Once we decided to look for a house, we decided it would be nice to try to shave a few dollars off our monthly budget where we could. One of the easiest places to save was with diapers. Both kids are in disposables at night still, which means a box lasts for quite a while. Since we already owned an entire stash of cloth diapers, we were immediately saving money.
So there you have it. Lots of little life updates. I have an entire list of blog topics I want to write on, so hopefully I’ll be a little better about posting!
I’m still trucking away, working toward my goal of reading 50 books by the end of 2015. I’ve made quite a dent so far. I’m sure when I’m busy this summer I’ll be happy I had such a head start … Continue reading
I love Goodreads (be my friend!). It’s so handy for keeping tracks of which books you’ve read and when. I can also keep track of books I would like to read and also see what my friends are reading. This year … Continue reading
If you’ve been reading for a while, you may have seen me mention my sewing and craft goals for 2014 a few times. I had a little list of projects I wanted to complete before the end of the year. Sadly, I did not complete the entire list. But that’s okay! I never really expected to finish everything. Some projects inspired me to do other projects, so it’s not like I wasn’t doing anything. Of course, moving my family to a new state kind of put a halt to crafting for a while.
So how did I do?
Bow Tie Quilt — I finished this one! I made a small, bow-tie inspired quilt over the summer for my niece. It’s one of my favorite quilts to date.
Bobble Afghan — I’m going to call this one a finish. Sort of. I made a small car seat afghan for Moxie using the bobble stitch. I’ve actually been working on a larger bobble afghan on and off since late summer. At this rate I’ll be 87 years old before I’m finished.
Valentine’s Shirt — Moxie had an adorable heart onesie to wear last year.
Easter Shirts — Another finish! I made matching shirts for the kids and they received lots of compliments each time we went out.
4th of July Shirts (#1 & #2) — I had Moxie’s 4th of July shirt finished early, but had no idea what I wanted to do for Gene. In the eleventh hour I whipped up his hand-painted star shirt, which he immediately got filthy with who knows what.
Halloween Shirts — Halloween was the first holiday we celebrated after moving to Missouri. I made shirts for the kids, though they weren’t matching. I’ll be honest and say that they both still wear these shirts. They still fit, so why not? I stuck them in their pajama drawer to wear with some flannel pajama pants I made last fall.
Thanksgiving & Christmas Shirts — I technically made Christmas and Thanksgiving shirts. In fact, I made a bunch. It’s just that none of them were for my own kids. I haven’t blogged about the Christmas shirts, but I promise they were adorable as well.
And now for the projects that are incomplete or not even started….
Halloween Sampler — SO close to being finished!
Christmas Sampler — Nope. I haven’t even started.
Camera strap — Ha! I didn’t even give this project a passing thought.
Apron — I wish!
St. Patrick’s Day Shirts — We were hit by some plague at the end of February/early March, so these never happened.
I haven’t made a list for this year yet. I do have a list of upcoming projects churning in my head, so we’ll see if I make time to type them out.
It’s December 16th, the perfect time to talk about… Halloween and Thanksgiving shirts! I know, I know. You’re thinking ‘it’s almost Christmas, silly!‘ I may be a bit behind on blogging. Oops. If you remember my Sewing & Craft Goals … Continue reading
