My Weightloss Journey

I have struggled with my weight for the majority of my life.

In high school I was always the chubby girl in my group of friends. Not really fat, just a little overweight. I graduated high school wearing size 11 jeans that I thought were the biggest pants on the planet.

By the end of my freshman year of college, I was squeezing into a pair of size 13 jeans. And I wasn’t surprised it just continued to go up from there. When I married my husband in June 2008, I was tipping the scale at just over 200 lbs.

In September 2014, my family and I packed up our belongings and moved from a large city in Illinois to a small town in rural Missouri. Being a stay-at-home-mom of two young kids, my social interaction was mostly limited to the cashier at the local Wal-Mart. I didn’t know anyone and I didn’t know where to meet people. Food became my best friend and my weight slowly creeped up.

On June 15, 2015, I stepped on the scale and was appalled at what I saw. I weighed 230 lbs. I decided that enough was enough. I started pushing my giant double stroller around my neighborhood each day and counted each calorie that passed my lips. If you’ve ever been to Missouri in the summer, you know that it gets hot and humid. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to keep up with my walks without my kids melting.

It was around this time that my friend told me she had signed up to be a BeachBody coach. After asking lots and lots of questions, I decided to try out the 21 Day Fix program and bought a bag of Shakeology. I loved that I didn’t have to count calories or calculate point values. If a food was on the approved list and fit in the color coded containers, I could eat it. And honestly, there are still days I don’t eat all of my containers because I’m full. You get to eat so much food AND lose weight!

I haven’t always given it 110%, but since July 11th, I have lost approximately 23 lbs! Even when I’m not tracking my containers or doing my daily workouts, I’ve been able to maintain my weight loss. I’m not dieting, I’m changing the way I eat!

Happy 2014!  It’s the new year so you know what that means — New Year’s Resolutions!  I’ve decided to make a few this year.  It’s nice to have goals.  The feeling of accomplishment when you reach one of your goals is even better.

Here are a few of my goals for 2014:

Make a quilt for each of my kids

I’ve wanted to make quilts for my kids for quite some time now, but always end up working on something else.  I actually have a quilt top finished for my son, it just needs to be quilted.

Try new recipes

My husband is a picky eater.  It makes adding new recipes to our collection tricky.  Lucky for me, my toddler will eat almost anything.  Hopefully I can find a few recipes the whole family can enjoy.

Do the 30 Day Shred

Operation: Get Fit needs to be a bigger priority this year.  I’ve lost all of the baby weight, but really need to shed a few more pounds.  I would rather have a root canal than drag two little kids to the Y in the middle of winter, so Jillian’s 30 Day Shred will have to do for now.

Meal plan

I have been working on this one for a while.  I plan a week’s meals at a time, but would love to work my way up to two or even four weeks at a time.  This is one chore I do not enjoy doing, so it seems to take me forever to come up with meal ideas.

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions?  What are your goals for 2014?
